DIPLOMATIC CARIBBEAN CELEBRATION and Haiti Fundraiser at the OAS (Live Island/Calypso Band and Live Salsa Band, Open Bar and More!)



Description:

Tonight, at the invitation of His Excellency the  Ambassador from Barbados, step onto foreign soil (actually international soil of many different nations) and embrace the Caribbean in multiple styles with multiple flavors for a very special Caribbean Celebration at the Organization of the American States!

From the Island/Reggae/Calypso sounds of places such as  Barbados, the Bahamas and Jamaica to the sizzling Latin styles of the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico,and even Cuba,.. BPC offers you a chance to embrace multiple cultures of the Caribbean through music, dance, food, drink, costumes, shows, and much more!

As you step into this magnificent venue into the grand ballroom of the OAS (usually restricted to diplomats and high ranking government figures) we'll be swept away like royalty into a majestic setting while embracing the multiple countries of the Caribbean. In a special cultural evening, we will recreate a visit to this Cultural Jewel of elegance, charm, music, dance great food, laughter, diplomats, new friends and more!

This event is a rare and exclusive events sponsored joingly by ThingstodoDC and the Embassy of Barbados. So, do not miss out!

Most important- tonight's event will be a partial fundraiser to assist in their relief effort for the devastating recent earthquate in Haiti.

1) CARIBBEAN FOOD:

A buffet menu of an array of native dishes representing countries throughout the Caribbean will challenge and delight your palates.

2) CARIBBEAN OPEN BAR:

This evening, we will pair off regional wines, beers, and Rum located throughout the Caribbean! Several Rums and cocktails are also being donated specially by various Caribbean embassies.

3) LIVE REGGAE/CALYPSO ISLAND BAND:

Join us for the live Soca music of  one of the hottest and most well-known reggae/calypso/island bands around! Playing multi Caribbean style music, they will take us on a fantastic musical journey as we dance to their special Island music, participate in a limbo contest, and recreate an island atmosphere! A favorite among the Ambassadors and Caribbean Embassies throughout the area, tonight Oasis band puts on a show you will never forget!

Featuring what we hope will be the largest Limbo Contest in the OAS' and Washington's History.

4) LIVE SALSA BAND:

Tonight, Washington's Premier Salsa Orchestra introduces another part of the Caribbean that has had people dancing in the streets of their countries for decades and decades! 

5) SALSA LESSON & DEMONSTRATION:

Before we begin with the Salsa Band, local dance experts will be on hand to give a basic or refresher course in exciting Latin dance moves! Impress your friends and family (and other new friends you make tonight) as you practice and challenge your new moves to the music of the hottest Salsa band in the city. In addition, our Salsa masters will put on a special expert dance presentation to embrace the Salsa of the Caribbean Countries!

6) DIPLOMATS:

Various Ambassadors and other high ranking diplomats of Caribbean countries will be invited and are expected to attend. Talk with many representatives of the Caribbean countries and learn about their culture, their economy, history, travel opportunities and you can further develop closer friendships and opportunities with them.

7) CHARITY RELIED FOR HAITI: 

Tonight, a portion of every ticket sold will be used to assist in the relief efforts following January's devastating earthquake in Haiti. 


8) WIN A TRIP TO THE CARIBBEAN:  

A drawing will be held for all attendees to win a Caribbean Vacation.

Tonight's event will be in the grand ballroom of the HALL OF THE AMERICAS. This venue stands premiere to almost any other embassy ballroom and space with its huge ceilings, large dance floors, multi cultural paintings and sculptures and much more!

Suggested Attire: 
Cocktail Attire Requested. Caribbean Style is Preferred. Jeans, shorts, sneakers or tee shirts will not be permitted.
